4th April 2011

We’re back!! Our first walk of 2011 is scheduled and some new announcements are below.

That was a long and cold winter, wasn’t it? Well, the good news is The Greyhound Walking Club of Central New York is back and ready to do some walking!  Before I give the info on our first walk I have a few announcements.

First, we have a new link on the right hand side of the website under the photo of the day. Its a link that you can click on to support the TGWC. As we discussed at the end of last year, there are costs associated with running this club. Even though its not super-high, it is significant. Obviously donating is totally optional but it would be much appreciated. Every little bit helps! With these donations, it will help defray some of the costs associated with website hosting, domain names, special events, etc.

Some of you emailed me disappointed last year after I had to cancel the podcast/live show. I am planning on trying it again this year so look for it soon. I think something like this would be a really fun thing for all of us to take part in. Please email me any suggestions you might have for the show.

Finally, the last announcement. Many of you have still not sent in any pictures of your hounds. Its VERY EASY to do. Just click on the link at the top of the page that says SUBMIT YOUR PICTURES and follow the instructions. We as Greyhound owners love to show off our dogs. Well, this is the perfect forum for it. Submit those pictures today!

Finally, Spread the word about our club. I would love too see if grow even bigger this year!

The Greyhound Walking Club of Central New York would like to announce its first greyhound walk of 2011.

Here is the info you will need:

Onondaga Lake Park West Shore Trail

For those new to the walks, please review the FAQ page on the site. Below I have included a map of the Park and have marked(in red) the parking lot we will meet at.  The entire Trail in a loop is about 4 miles but don’t feel you have to walk that far. We understand some people simply don’t care for the longer walks. We will let you know beforehand of some shorter loops that you can take. If it does prove to be a bad weather on the 1st(thunderstorms, heavy rain, extreme cold), I will post something on the site 1 hour before the walk indicating we will cancel the walk and reschedule. Hopefully this will not happen.

If you need assistance with specfic directions or don’t understand something in the map, feel free to email me at glenn@thegreyhoundwalkingclub.com .

If you are planning on attending, please post a comment below. It would be nice to know roughly how many people are coming. I plan on having refreshments at the end.

See all of you in a month!

Greyhound Online show/podcast cancelled because of lack of interest

I was very surprised at this.  I posted on 2 greyhound forums and emailed all our members. I got one response.  Its just not worth having with this kind of interest.  I will cancel it for now. Please, if you think we should still have it, email me. Id like to start another dialogue.

Take part in our new monthly online Greyhound shows! First show is November 21st!

Click for a larger Version

TIME:  7:00pm-8:30pm Sunday, November 21st

Please POST A COMMENT BELOW to reserve your spot on Nov 21st! I will then send you the instructions on how to enter the show. Make sure the email address you submit with your comment is a valid one.

I had intended in the dog walking off-season to produce some Greyhound type podcasts. These podcasts would bascially showcase different topics relating to Greyhounds.  Listeners would be able to write in, ask questions and most importantly be able to listen to these shows on their computer or from an iPod.  Well, I struggled with this idea for awhile and wanted something a little more interactive. I found it! Keep reading!

Introducing the GreyT Show!  A virtual online meeting room powered by Adode Connect!  Its an online place where people with an interest in Greyhounds can gather,  learn more about the breed and socialize. It will also be a place where not only can the hosts can share their experiences and wisdom, everyone can.  Once a month(or maybe more depending on how it goes), people will login to a online meeting room and a presentation on a greyhound topic will be conducted by the show hosts. After they present, we will open the forum up to anyone in the room. You can either ask questions, make comments and just share experiences. This can be done via a microphone attached to your computer and simply using your keyboard to type in a question.

This all may seem complicated but it really isnt. Its as simple as clicking on a web link in an email and you’re in the room taking part in all the fun!  I have prepared a little demo video below.  It gives a wealth of information about what the room will look like and what you can do once you are inside.  Another great thing about these sessions is that they can and will be recorded. So if you are unable attend, it will be posted on our website a couple days after the show. You can then watch it online or download it to your Ipod or mobile device.

So.. please watch the video below. Remember to POST A COMMENT BELOW if you plan on attending.  I really have high hopes for this show.  I think it will be a fun and informative way to raise awareness about Greyhound adoption as well as just a cool place to socialize with people who have a similar interest, Greyhounds!

Great Fall Walk at Pratts Falls!

Thanks to everyone that braved the weather. It didn’t rain at all on our walk. It started out very rainy in the early morning but by the time 11am came around, the sky brightened up and it got to be a very comfortable temperature outside.  I am very glad people suggested Pratts Falls for a walk. It was a very scenic walk among the fallen leaves today.   The club will definitely be back to that park next year.

So… since this was the last walk of the season and I just want say a big THANK YOU to everyone.   My wife and I have had a blast. Our hound Jake and Allie just love seeing all the hounds every month.  It’s been so much fun meeting so many new people and seeing alot of familair faces. We hope that during the off-season you tell you friends about us so we  can grow the club even bigger next year. I plan on starting the walks up again next year in April.

Also, please continue to monitor the website during our off-season. I plan on having a bi monthly online Greyhound show in which you will be able to listen to as well as participate in.   It will be sort of a “virtual meeting room” that I will make online and people can request an invite to be a part of it. This event will also be recorded so that if you can’t attend you will be able to watch it online later or even download it on your Ipod.  We will have topics ranging from Greyhound clothing to how to keep your hounds teeth clean. It will be alot of fun and will be very interactive. You will be able to send in emails to be read on the show and also even speak on the show if you have a microphone connected to your computer.  It may all sound really complicated but it wont be.  Just keep monitoring the site over the next couple weeks for info and how to participate.

Again.. thanks to everyone who came to the walks this year and made the GWC so much fun for everyone!  CLICK HERE for pictures from todays walk.

Join us for our Halloween walk

Join us for our last walk of the season.  Since its getting a bit colder outside, this walk will be at 11am instead of the usual 10am.  Many of you had requested this location,  so I am excited to have our last walk of the season at Pratts Falls in Manlius.

Pratt’s Falls Park
-Sunday, October 24th at 11am
-We will meetup at the main parking lot.
-Click Here for directions. If you need more detailed directions, please send me an email.

I did tour the park at bit today and there are many trails of different lengths to choose from.  To get to the main park lot is simple. When you take the turn into the main entrance of the park, keep baring right and it will take you right to the main parking area. Here is a MAP of the park for your reference. If there are heavy rains or snow, I will postpone the walk and post something at 9am on the website. Please check the site before you leave for the park just in case. If nothing is posted, it means everything is on.

Remember, this is the last walk until March or April of next year so lets tell all your friends and have a big turnout.  As many of your know, during our off-walking season, i’m planning on doing some Greyhound podcasts, so make sure you keep checking the website for information.  If you have any suggestions on topics, please feel free to email me.

If you are planning on attending this last walk of the season, please post a comment below. I always like to get a rough idea of how many people and hounds will be attending.  Also, please keep those hound pictures coming. You can submit yours by clicking on the SUBMIT YOUR PICTURES button at the top of the website.  See you next Sunday!

Thanks to all that took my survey!

Hello everyone! Hit the PLAY button on the video player below.

If you havent yet, or havent been sent a survey link, take it here:

SURVEY – CLICK HERE

The information I gather from this survey will help me with upcoming walks. It will also assist me in figuring out things we would like to add or get rid of from our club.  The majority of the feedback so far has been very positive. I really appreciate all your kind words. Please remember to keep the feedback coming. I really want to know how we can make our club better.
A couple of you that took the survey had asked what costs are associated with this club. In running this club, one of the costs is maintaining and hosting a website. This is not free. The GWC  had to pay for the domain which is a reoccuring charge every year. We also have to pay for hosting and backup. This is also not free and carries a monthly charge. For special events like the good dog park, a banner had to be purchased as well as bottled water. I also intended on having an online greyhound show/podcast viewable on the internet in the off walking season.  Software and some equipment would have to be purchased for this.  These things may not sound like alot but when you add it all up plus the time it takes to organize the events/walks we have, posting pictures/videos on the site, it all adds up. Thats not to say i’m not willing to do it. I love every minute of it. I just thought maybe if people really like the club and want to make sure it stays in existance for years to come, it might be a good idea to have the members support it with a small donation every once and a while.  It would be totally optional but it could really make a difference down the road.
Again, I appreciate all the feedback so far. Keep it coming. I got so many great ideas for new walk locations. I am very excited!

Best turnout ever!

Thanks to everyone for making this walk the best turnout ever! If I counted right at the end, we had 12 hounds! As everyone can tell, its starting to get colder outside but I think we can still squeeze a couple more walks in before the snow and really cold weather comes. Keep watching the website for the October walk to be posted soon!  CLICK HERE to find pictures from today. Also, a video is below.
Again…thanks for a great walk today!

31st August 2010

Our next walk will be on September 26th, Finally! :)

First of all , I must apologize for how long its been since our last event/walk. The summer has been busier than I could have expected. On top of all that, I took a lengthy vacation in the month of August.  The good news is I’ve scheduled our next walk. The details are below.

OLD ERIE CANAL TRAIL
Sunday, September 26th at 10:00am
Meet at the Ryder Park Pavilion next to Dewitt Town Hall(The park and the town hall share a parking lot)

I think this will be a great walk for everyone because its a very level straight trail and you can all choose how far you would like to walk. We will meet at the Ryder Park Pavilion at 10am sharp. The pavilion is covered with picnic tables.  If you need assistance with specific directions or don’t understand something in the map, feel free to email me at glenn@thegreyhoundwalkingclub.com .

If you are planning on attending, please post a comment below. I always like to get a rough idea of how many people and hounds will be attending.  Also, I haven’t gotten any new hound pictures in quite some time. Please, help me fill my picture page and submit your pictures today! Up at the top of my website you will see a button that says “submit your pictures”. Its quick and easy!

Good Dog Park Event was a Greyt success!

Thanks to everyone who attended! We had a bigger than expected turnout and best of all, the rain held off for the entire event.  It was a wonderful morning and it seemed that everyone had a great time. Also, a special thanks to Leiko and all the people at Onondaga Lake Parks for being nice enough to let use their park for our event. Hopefully this can be a regular thing for our club.
For some pictures from today, click here. I also have a short video below. If you have any pictures you would like to share with the club, please use the SUBMIT PICTURES button at the top of the website. I personally would love to see all the pictures that people took throughout the day.
